Beyond the Neighbourhood
Like most of the good music today in America, you’ll probably only hear it on satellite radio or in a commercial and that includes the band Athlete. If you’re avid watcher of television, you might have heard the song Wires (Album Version) in a promo for a syndicated show on TNT or [...]

Like most of the good music today in America, you’ll probably only hear it on satellite radio or in a commercial and that includes the band Athlete. If you’re avid watcher of television, you might have heard the song Wires (Album Version) in a promo for a syndicated show on TNT or TBS, which came from their second album Tourist You can hear the influences of U2, Mercury Rev and The Flaming Lips in their music with a sound that is most similar to Coldplay, Doves, Grandaddy, British Sea Power and Beck. All of this assures you’ll be hearing music with a great melody that has lyrics to match that you will truly enjoy. If you like what you’ve heard from Athlete in the past, you’ll want to get their latest album Beyond the Neighbourhood which again is a slight departure from the album that preceeded it.

If you watch a lot of television, particularly the commercials, then you might be familiar with part of one song from the group, Band of Horses. With radio being the worst place to find good music today we’ve had to resort to television, and I’m not referring to MTV. The best place to hear great new music that you normally would never hear on the radio, is from television commercials, mostly for cars. The commercial in question here is for the Ford Edge with “Sarah” looking up out of the sunroof, with a very mysterious “oooohhhh” on top of some very ethereal music reminiscent of Catherine Wheel’s first album, Ferment For those that have been looking for the song in this commercial, it’s called The Funeral (Album Version) on the album Everything All the Time. The dreamy sound of this band and particularly this song, is infectious. If you enjoy this band then you may also want to look up Carissas Wierd, which is the former band of part of this group. Hope you like their sound as much as we do.
