If you happen to be a fan of indie/arternative rock with a heavy shoegaze-influenced style of music, which really was in its prime from the late 1980s through the early 1990s, then you’ll be glad to know that this style of music still lives on today that is being produced new musical groups. You’ve probably been waiting for quite some time to hear new music from the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Swervedriver, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, or Catherine Wheel, and although some of these bands are back together you’ll be waiting for quite some time to hear anything new. The great bands from the UK that created what is probably the most melodic of musical styles in recent times, still have influence today by inspiring new musicians that are making this music today. Luckily, we’ve found My Raining Stars from France who have been influenced by some of the best possible bands we can think of, and you’ll hear it in their music. If you’re looking to get a taste of what their sound is like you can find them on MySpace/MyRainingStars and give them a thorough listening. If you like what they have as much as we do, then let them know, so that we can hear more from them in the future.

If you like what you’ve heard from the likes of Spoon, the Walkmen or The Hives, you may just like the music from this foursome known as The Joggers. This group from Portland came together in 2001 and have released two albums, Solid Guild which arrived on the scene in 2003 with well crafted songs like Hot Autism and Natural Novice. On their sophomore album, With a Cape and a Cane, you’ll be delighted to hear songs that are as genuine in their freewheeling style as they are unique in their titles like Ziggurat Traffic, Horny Ghost and Apache Figurines. It’s been several years since we’ve heard from this band, but with any luck they’ve got more of the cool, witty and playful music that we’ve come to enjoy from their first two albums. If you’re a fan of XTC, then you”ll like what you hear from The Joggers, and just hope that they have several more albums left in them. Buy With a Cape and a Cane and enjoy a band that has put forth two high-quality indie rock albums that you may never tire of.

We have yet to hear any of their songs played on the radio in the US, so we thought that we would introduce British Sea Power to you through their latest album Do You Like Rock Music?. Many times we hear great songs in car commercials, but we aren’t aware of any song from British Sea Power being used in a car commercial. British Sea Power have released several albums with great songs having titles like The Land Beyondand Victorian Ice that are reminiscent of the country’s rich naval history which has continued in their song titles like Waving Flags on their latest album. They have been compared to Joy Division, however they may be a bit more guitar heavy, but if you are a fan of Coldplay, Muse or Interpol then you will definitely enjoy listening to all of their albums. With British Sea Power you have yet another amazing band from the British rock scene that put on live performances not to be missed. If British Sea Power are on their way to your city for a concert, then do yourself a favor and see them live as you’ll be in for great show, otherwise just buy their albums as they are equally pleasing.

If you watch a lot of television, particularly the commercials, then you might be familiar with part of one song from the group, Band of Horses. With radio being the worst place to find good music today we’ve had to resort to television, and I’m not referring to MTV. The best place to hear great new music that you normally would never hear on the radio, is from television commercials, mostly for cars. The commercial in question here is for the Ford Edge with “Sarah” looking up out of the sunroof, with a very mysterious “oooohhhh” on top of some very ethereal music reminiscent of Catherine Wheel’s first album, Ferment For those that have been looking for the song in this commercial, it’s called The Funeral (Album Version) on the album Everything All the Time. The dreamy sound of this band and particularly this song, is infectious. If you enjoy this band then you may also want to look up Carissas Wierd, which is the former band of part of this group. Hope you like their sound as much as we do.

New Music Sleuth is for finding and letting the world know about the music we like, which ranges from various types of rock to electronic and dance music. We’re always searching for great new music, just like you. At New Music Sleuth we hope to impart a little knowledge and a lot of great music to those that enjoy the music that isn’t often, if ever heard, on the radio or MTV. We always like to have a heads-up on music that you think deserves some airing, so let us know what you like that you think is still undiscovered. Check out the genres we have, and let us know if we’re leaving something out.
